Bach : Lukas Passion BWV 246

by 고자길동 2018. 2. 25.

Genre: Song song

Composer: Bach

Title: Lukas Passion BWV 246

Soloists: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass; 4-part Chorus

Orchestra: 2 transverse flutes, 2 oboes, taille, fagott, 2 violuns, viola, violoncello, organ, continuo

The general consensus today is that this composition is a work not by Bach but by a contemporary of his, one who most likely lived and worked in central Germany and that Bach copied out and performed this composer's work (quoted from the liner notes by Klaus Häfner to CPO recording of this Passion, see details below).

The work is now attributed to Johann Melchior Molter ((1696-1765).

The thought now is that Molter was not the composer either because, if he were, then the manuscript copy that exists now would have had to have been made later than 1730-1731, and this would not have been possible because Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (who also worked along with his father on the manuscript copy) was only in Leipzig until 1734, after which time he entered the University of Frankfurt an der Oder.

1st performance: April 7, 1730 - Leipzig

2nd performance: April 8, 1735 - Leipzig

3rd performance (Later Version): April 16, 1745 ? or 1743-1746 - Leipzig (including at least one movement by J.S. Bach Aus der Tiefe rufet ich (BWV 246/40a), later version)
