It consists of nine songs by Heine's poem "Buch der Lieder". It is the earliest work to switch from piano centering to composing. Italian song with folk influence, influenced by Schubert.

Composition of movements


1 Morgens steh 'ich auf und frage (if you wake up every morning). Allegretto D major. As if he has not woken yet, the uneasy psychology is expressed by transpositions and ritar daggers.


2 songs Es treibt mich hin (restless). Sehr rasch (very fast). B forged. Fermata and Ritar dan are used to express emotions and be influenced by Schubert.


3 songs Ich wandelte unter den Bäumen. Indicated as Ziemlich langsam (very slow). B major. A-A-B-A '. B is structurally related to A, which expresses a further enlarged emotion.


4 songs Lieb 'Liebchen. E forged. It is organized in a folk-like form, but in a more different form in detail. In particular, in the second half of each section, there is a difference in the tendency of chord progression and harmonic progression using transposition. In Jeonju, the song starts without ending.


5 songs Schöne wiege meiner Leiden (The beautiful cradle of sorrow). It has the largest structure in all music. A-A-B-A-C-A. The A part is composed of the E-major, and changes each time it appears again by changing the accompaniment. Part B consists of E forgings and represents a strong emotion. Part C is made up of G sharp forgings, and finally comes back to Part A through the Resatibo type Adagio.


6 songs Warte, warte wilder Schiffmann (Wait, rough sailors). Depicting emotional changes over certain staccato accompaniments. Consists of three parts.


7 songs Berg und Burgen schaun herunter (mountains and castles in the water). A song that shows the surface of the river and its inner appearance. Ruhig, nicht zu schnell (Quietly rush) Consists of four sections.


8 songs Anfangs wollt 'ich fast verzagen (initially without hope). D Forged 4/4 beat. It is a short folk-style song and accompaniment proceeds with a simple chord.


9 songs Mit Myrten und Rosen (rose flower with mille). D major. Innig, directed nicht rasch (affectionately, not fast). Influenced by Italian melodies. It is composed of the most faithful songs of all songs. The motivation of the triplet notes presented in Jeonju gives overall stability.
