It was the first of six Haydn songs to be written during the second London visit on January 19, 1794. This work was composed in Vienna before traveling to London. The clarinet was used for the first time. Oboe plays a central role in woodwind music.

The first theme is presented as a violin and is followed by a tutti. The second theme is the clarinet and the first violin, followed by the oboe and the first violin. The development department is C-monotone, and the first theme motive 4 motive is introduced and the second motive is developed. The recital is played orchestrated with the first theme repeatedly. The second theme is played with flute, clarinet, oboe, first violin, and bass.
